Liquid Soul
Liquid Soul
Gaëtan Changeur is a French artist who explores the intersection of painting and photography through abstract underwater compositions. Using a water tank as his studio, he introduces pigments that disperse and interact with light, creating fleeting forms and textures. These ephemeral scenes are captured at the precise moment when color, movement, and fluid dynamics align.
His work evokes natural and cosmic elements—clouds, waves, volcanic eruptions—while remaining firmly rooted in abstraction. Suspended between motion and stillness, his images invite contemplation and blur the boundary between the real and the imaginary. Each photograph offers a poetic vision of a world in constant transformation.
Author
My work is essentially centered around water. The way it can be perceived through my work called "Liquid Soul" It is a study on fluids and its changes of state through an exploration of matter in its most ephemeral form. My fascination with the study of liquids, transformation and science in general have really influenced my creative process. The "Liquid Soul" series is an exploration of consciousness and magical worlds with chimerical creatures. Through the limitless space, vibrant textures emerge organically. Similar to life, each image is a mystery unfolding. I developed my project around abstraction and the free interpretation of its subjects. Becoming a source of its own development by feeding on itself. I cannot deny the influence in my work of the scientific photographs of Berenice Abbott, who produced a series of artistic and aesthetic images of physical and chemical phenomena from 1939. I have an admiration for the artist Man Ray and his rayograms that influenced my first black and white film research. The work of painters like Jackson Pollock or Pierre Soulages always inspires my desire to create. This photographic work operates a symbolic vaporization since it almost looks like smoke or at least something very aerial. The liquid tends to tear itself away from immanence to reach a kind of absolute, from the bottom up.
