Layer Upon Layer
Layer Upon Layer
Women have many sides. We can never be described in one word. You will hear, “She’s nice” or “She’s stupid.” Peel back that one layer and beneath you will find another. And then another. All different. A little bit the same. What if we could see the layers all atop one other? These images are meant to remind everyone that we cannot be defined in one word or by one incident. We are complicated, multi-faceted, a product of our upbringing, a product of our environment, and of our experiences.
The photographs began as a beauty editorial for a magazine. After the images were published, I began experimenting with adding layers of texture, color, and gradients at varying opacities. Next, I adjusted hue and saturation, curves, masking, and color balance. Each process and result is unique. The journey was thoroughly delightful.
